About Mount Carmel College
Mount Carmel College for women, owned and run by the congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa, in the year 1944 in Trichur (under the title of Carmel College in the State of Cochin) affiliated to Madras University, was transferred to Bangalore in 1948 to meet the increasing demand for women’s education. Thus began the story of Mount Carmel College, Bangalore on the 7th of July 1948 with just fifty students on its rolls. Initially affiliated to Mysore University later it became an affiliated college of Bangalore University in 1964. MCC is a minority institution run primarily for Catholic Students but in the spirit of service, it opens its doors to those of all castes and creeds. It draws its inspiration from the person and teaching of Jesus Christ, Universal Master and Model of Education. The college was granted the autonomy status in September 2005, affiliated to Bengaluru University. Mount Carmel College was re-accredited with an A+ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2006. It is one of the Colleges in India selected by UGC under the scheme, College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) in 2006. In the year 2012 the college was rewarded A grade by NAAC in its 2nd round of re-accreditation.
The College offers Under Graduate and Post Graduate Courses in Commerce and Management, Humanities, Science, Home Science. The student strength of the college in 1944 was 274; today it has strength of over 5,500 students pursuing both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Programmes. As a major step, the College established an Institute for Management Studies (MCIM) in 1992, with a view to provide women students an opportunity to pursue Management Education.
The College has well established Research Facilities, State of the Art laboratories and facilitates research culture both among staff and students. The Commerce Department has been recognized as a Research Centre by Bengaluru University in 2006. Further IGNOU has recognized many of the Departments as Research Centers from the year 2010 – 11. The College has been registered with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India (Act 1988) in the year 2011.
Under the Under Graduate stream the college offers 10 Programmes in the Faculty of Arts, 18 in the Faculty of Science and 4 in the Faculty of Commerce and Management. Number of Post Graduate programmes has increased from 3 under the affiliated system to 13 under the autonomous system. The College through the Centre for Extended Education(CEE) offers skill based credit programs. In the course of it’s over 6 decades of history Mount Carmel College has worked successfully at its primary objective of women empowerment through education and it continues to be committed to the same.

As per the Bengaluru University norms Under Graduate Students in B.A / B.Sc programme are expected to study 3 core subjects over 6 semesters. Under graduate students in B.Com. (Regular) programme are expected to study 4 core subjects over 6 semesters. Under graduate students in B.Com. (Industry Integrated) programme are expected to study 5 core subjects over 6 semesters. In addition for students of all programmes there are 2 compulsory subjects over 4 semesters – General English and II language. Mount Carmel offers a wide range of choices for II language– Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, German, French and Additional English. Students of all programmes must also get 8 compulsory credits from Value Education/ Catechism, Indian Constitution and Environmental Studies.In addition , MCC offers a BA Honours Degree in Communication Studies.

The programs offered under Commerce and Management gives the students a theoretical and practical exposure to the world of business. The courses offered initiates students into the principles and practices of advanced accounting and the dynamics of management, together with marketing, banking, auditing, company law, secretarial practice and allied disciplines. Procedure of Admission
The admission policy ensures special consideration to the differently abled, economically backward, scheduled castes and tribes, backward communities and the catholic minority. Except for these special categories, the rest of the seats are allotted purely on merit.
Application forms for admission for the academic year 2019-2020 will be available ONLINE for PG Programmes & UG Programmes from 1st March 2019 .
Applications are accepted online only.
Fees for application to be paid through the Payment Gateway (Online Payment)
Application fee for UG Programmes: Rs. 500/ and PG Programmes: Rs. 700/
Fees should be paid on the day of the interview. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
Students have to study the language (Second language) studied at the last qualifying examination.
A soft copy of the applicant’s recent passport size photo and signature is mandatory to be uploaded on the application. (Less than 100 K)
Admission for B.Com courses based on merit.

Those who are claiming admission under reservation category must submit attested copy of the caste/income certificate while submitting the hard copy of the application to the admission office.( validity up to 5 years).
Catholics should submit latest baptism certificate and Parish priest letter from the respective church.
Differentially Abled Candidate should enclose a copy of disability or handicap certificates issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner.
